Using Premiere Pro CS3 with an iMac

Posted in Technology on November 28, 2007 by evanbutson

Recently at the Digital Media Festival on the Adobe Booth I had a few questions from some Mac users about the best method to get monitor out in both SD and HD from an iMac when using Premiere Pro CS3. Now as you all know the iMac doesn’t allow you to add any third party hardware such as a BlackMagic Intencity or AJA card, so for a while there it looked like you were out of luck. However after doing a bit of digging around I have found that the Matrox MXO with the new version 2 drivers will support Premiere Pro CS3. Some additional new features are:

What’s new in Matrox MXO 2.0?
· DVI monitor calibration – hue, chroma, contrast, brightness, and blue-only adjustments
· Super black and super white monitoring on the DVI display
· Pixel-to-pixel mapping on the DVI display
· “Virtual bezel” on the DVI display
· New HD editing resolutions – 1080p at 23.98, 25, and 29.97 fps; and 720p at 25 and 50 fps
· New DVI output resolution – 1024×768 at 59.94 fps
· Region of interest output selection in Presentation Mode
· Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 support
· “Leopard” support

So if you are an iMac or even a Mac Mini user and you are looking at editing with Premiere Pro CS3 there is no a hardware solution for full rez monitoring in both SD and HD.
